Library and IT services

The college library is one of the newest libraries at Oxford, with a collection that is continually being expanded and catalogued.

The collection covers a broad range of subjects and has particular strengths in historical architecture, archaeology, landscape and garden history, interior design and finishing, good coverage of local and medieval history, and of aspects of English and French literature.

Members of Kellogg College have 24-hour access to the collection, which is reference only.

The college site has full Wi-Fi coverage, allowing easy access to the University network. Study-bedrooms on the college site are equipped for wireless access. There are several network points and desktop workstations around the college for students to use while studying and some hot-desking spaces. The college operates a central printing service allowing printing from anywhere on site. A scanner/copier facility is also available. Study spaces within the college are usually available 24 hours a day.

Sport, music and college facilities

At Kellogg, student life thrives well beyond the classroom, and a rich mix of activities and facilities is offered to round out the student experience.

Sport is a big part of life at Kellogg. Students regularly compete in a wide range of University teams, including prestigious ‘Blues’ sports such as rugby, rowing, and hockey. Others take part in everything from ju jitsu to mountaineering. The college has a longstanding affiliation with Christ Church Boat Club, enabling students to access experienced international level coaches, top-quality equipment and an all-inclusive training environment. Its cricket, tennis and football teams compete in friendly matches and competitive tournaments with other colleges. Students also enjoy free access to the gym and pool at the University Sports Centre on Iffley Road.

Cultural and creative activities include drama clubs, film nights, live concerts, yoga sessions, choir practice, wine tastings, and dancing. Kellogg’s calendar is packed with exciting events throughout the year. Highlights include Bletchley Park Week, which celebrates the college’s historic links to the world of codebreaking, its lively Burns Night ceilidh, themed formal dinners, and the ever-popular Summer Ball, run by the MCR.

The college is home to a number of research centres which contribute to the college's academic life. Seminar speakers include college fellows, visiting experts from around the world, and students. The college also hosts a regular colloquium and Graduate Symposium, offering students the opportunity to share their research and receive feedback.

The college understands that many students balance study with work and family life, so events are scheduled with flexibility in mind. Many take place on weekends or during vacation periods, and the college has expanded its online offerings to ensure everyone can stay connected – wherever they are in the world.

Facilities for disabled students

The college’s main buildings are wheelchair accessible. Specially-adapted student accommodation is available on the college site. There are large monitors and adjustable desks for students to use.

The college will always do its best to support any student who has a special accommodation request or other requirements due to a physical disability, learning difficulty or medical condition. Please contact the college to discuss your accessibility requirements.

Welfare

The college knows that from time to time, students may need extra support, whether for health, disability, financial or personal reasons. Alongside the University’s services, the college provides a range of facilities and services to support the welfare and wellbeing of its students. The Welfare Dean is a College Fellow responsible for the wellbeing of college members, and is the designated Disability Lead. Each student is assigned a College Advisor who provides pastoral support and advice, including on any health, personal or coping issues. Peer Supporters are student volunteers who have been trained to listen effectively, communicate sensitively, maintain confidentiality, respect boundaries, and recognise when and how to refer to professional support services The college also offers all students to sign up for one-to-one chats with members of our welfare team to provide a safe space to talk through any concerns or challenges that may affect your mental, emotional or overall wellbeing.

MCR

The college has an active Middle Common Room (MCR). The MCR Committee is made up of full-time and part-time students who work to provide support and events for all students in the college. The MCR is involved with welcoming new and returning students each term, runs a programme of social, welfare and sporting events each term, and is engaged through student representatives in the governance of the college.
