Information about student 'visa brake' for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon Myanmar and Sudan
If you are a national of one of these countries you will be affected by a new restriction meaning that a student visa entry clearance application (meaning an application made in your home country to come to the UK for study) made on or after 26 March 2026 will be refused, and this brake is expected to last for at least 18 months. In-UK student visa applications and applications on any other route (except for Skilled worker applications for Afghanistan nationals) are not affected.
Oxford applicants and offer holders from these countries will be contacted soon with further information. You can read the UK government information on this here: Visa brake: changes to the UK visa system - GOV.UK
