AI Ambassadors and peer networks

Across the University and Oxford Colleges, staff can access a range of forums and opportunities to share knowledge and ideas, keep up to date with the latest generative AI (GenAI) developments, and learn from peers.

AI Ambassadors programme

Oxford’s AI Ambassadors are a voluntary group of active GenAI users from across the collegiate University, selected by the AI Competency Centre for their commitment to effective and responsible use of GenAI technology. They serve as points of contact for colleagues, within in their area of the University.

AI Ambassadors have a wide variety of roles, both professional and academic. They help to signpost colleagues to best practice, guidance or training, always pointing to any existing departmental or college AI policy. They offer advice on how AI can be integrated into people’s work, and they may also demonstrate or offer mentoring in how to apply AI tools in practice.

Whilst AI Ambassadors can mentor or guide staff, students are advised to seek guidance and from their college, department or faculty, as well as free training and support from the range of providers across the University.

The network of staff AI Ambassadors has over 250 members, from more than 100 departments and colleges around the University.

The University’s AI Competency Centre manages online communities on Microsoft Teams which any member of the University to join. These allow AI users to discuss ideas and interests they may have within the generative AI space, ask questions, and learn from their peers.

There are currently two main groups open to current staff and students:

Generative AI SIG – Generative AI Special Interest Group

This is a Teams group to learn about latest updates in AI, share experiences, ask questions and discuss philosophical issues about GenAI.
