Information for Oxford University Staff

Here are some ways you can help:

• Remind students of the Careers resources and ask them to register their interests on the CareerConnect system (such as where they want to work, what type of work, what languages they speak), and to use the site to look for vacancies.
• Suggest the student makes an appointment with a careers adviser. Students are welcome to book an appointment at any stage of their career thinking and planning.  Whether they have no idea what they want to do or whether they are quite clear but need help to write applications and so on - all are welcome.
• Include a link to the Careers homepage in the faculty/college homepage and some information about us in student handbooks. Our webpages contain a wealth of information, everything from how to get started on careers through to job options and further study in alumni data bases students can also use LinkedIn where they will find a large group of Oxford University alumni.
• Involve the Careers team in faculty, departmental or college activities – induction sessions or leavers fairs for example. All colleges and departments have a nominated Careers Adviser as a point of contact. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information.
• If students are about to graduate please remind them that they are able to still access Careers support.

The University is committed to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. As a signatory of this agreement the University aims to support researchers to achieve a wide range of career goals. Principal Investigators (PIs) have a key role to play in fulfilling this aim through their support with the professional and career development of the research staff they manage.

Here are some ways that you can help:

• Ensure that research staff are aware of the career strand of the Trailmap for researchers and consider using it to have more structured conversations with your fixed-term colleagues.
• Offer your research staff the opportunity to reflect on their career aspirations through Career Development Reviews. The Researcher Hub offers useful advice for PIs on holding career-focused conversations.

If this will be your first time posting a vacancy with us, you’ll need to first register as an organisation on our site.

If you’re posting a vacancy for a department, then you may need to add the department information as well.
