Specialists in our Cyber Security unit are dedicated to identifying and managing cyber risks to protect people, information and digital services across our collegiate University community.

Cyber security plays an important role in protecting the people, information and digital services that enable Oxford's academic mission. It helps the University community to work, learn and collaborate securely, whilst safeguarding systems and data that support effective teaching, research and administration. 

Dedicated cyber security specialists across the University work together to identify and manage risks, monitor emerging threats, and respond effectively to incidents. They ensure that critical services remain secure, resilient and available for the staff and students who rely on them.
 
Oxford's approach to cyber security balances effective protection with the values of collaboration, partnership and the open exchange of knowledge and ideas. Through ongoing investment in cyber resilience, we are strengthening our ability to respond to emerging threats in an evolving digital landscape, whilst supporting excellence in education, research and innovation.
 

Guidance and information for University staff

Our central Cyber Security unit is led by Chris Mortlock, interim Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Staff can access key information about cyber security at Oxford on OxIntranet, the University-wide intranet (Single Sign-On required):
 

All staff are required to complete the University's Information Security and Data Protection training course every 12 months.
