Further information
Sky Wi-Fi (formerly known as "The Cloud") has been contracted to provide the University's public Wi-Fi service.
Most Sky Wi-Fi networks available in the University are called "TheCloud". You will need to create or use a Sky Wi-Fi Roaming Account to access the service.
Please note that we recommend the following Wi-Fi networks over Sky Wi-Fi where you are eligible:
- University staff, students and visitors with access to a Remote Access account, should use eduroam Wi-Fi
- Visitors from participating HE/FE institutions can use eduroam Wi-Fi service
- The OWL Visitor Wi-Fi service is available to academic and business visitors sponsored through a department or college
Security and Data Protection
Sky Wi-Fi, not the University, is the data controller for any personal data submitted when registering for an account with Sky.
Data submitted as part of the registration process is only encrypted while you are registering or logging in. Sky Wi-Fi does not encrypt data communicated over the network. We therefore advise that you only connect to websites beginning with https://, and use a VPN for connecting to other services.
Sky applies content filtering to the service in line with their terms and conditions, which means not all websites will be available.
Further information can be found on the Sky Wi-Fi website.
