What is a passkey?
A passkey is a modern sign-in method that provides stronger protection against phishing attacks and are a more convenient sign-in experience, it allows you to authenticate using:
- Your phone
- Your fingerprint
- Face recognition
- A security key
Instead of entering a verification code, your device securely confirms your identity.

- Faster sign-in
- More secure than Text message
- Resistant to phishing attacks
- No need to wait for codes
The University supports
- Passkeys stored in Microsoft Authenticator (recommended for most users)
- FIDO2 security keys such as YubiKeys
Synced passkeys are being investigated as a future authentication option. Users should currently use Microsoft Authenticator passkeys or FIDO2 security keys.
