Oxford for East Midlands

University of Oxford colleges have been individually working with schools across the East Midlands for many years. Lincoln College, Magdalen College and St Edmund Hall have combined forces to run Oxford for East Midlands, our community outreach programme in your area. This collaboration helps us provide better and more bespoke support for students of different ages, their teachers and parents.

This area is currently under redevelopment. Please get in touch directly with the relevant college forming part of your regional consortium if you have any questions about our work in your area.

About us

What is Oxford for East Midlands?

Oxford for East Midlands brings together three Oxford colleges with established links in the region: Lincoln, Magdalen and St Edmund Hall. Together, these three colleges make up the Oxford for East Midlands consortium, working together in your area to provide underrepresented students with information and guidance about university and Oxford. Our work involves various programmes and events, including school trips to Oxford, workshops in schools and online, digital resources, advice for teachers and more.

The local authorities supported by Oxford for East Midlands are:

Derby, Derbyshire, Leicester, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, South Lincolnshire

Aims

Our aims are ambitious. Through Oxford for East Midlands, we aim to:

  • Help students in the East Midlands enjoy their learning, to think big and become independent learners
  • Inspire students of all ages and from all backgrounds to have the confidence to be themselves and to be ambitious about their futures
  • Improve the educational opportunities of all students
  • Encourage more students from the East Midlands to aim for top universities and to achieve their goals
  • Increase the number of students at Oxford from currently under-represented groups
  • Ensure Oxford University is a realistic goal for anyone with academic talent and commitment.

For more details on the research underpinning these commitments, please see the University of Oxford's Access and Participation Plan.

Working Together

In 2020 we launched Oxford NextGen - a targeted, sustained-contact programme working with select schools across Derby, Leicester, Northampton, and Nottingham. This programme is currently operating on an invite-only basis due to limited capacity.

We are also developing partnerships with schools, local authorities, multi academy trusts, community organisations, local universities and social mobility organisations.

Please note that if you or your school are not eligible to receive support through our Access & Outreach programmes, there is still plenty of advice and support available for you here and on the University website. All schools, sixth form and further education colleges have a point of contact within University of Oxford who will be happy to provide information and advice on admissions and outreach. You are also welcome to contact us via email.

Impact

We do not expect to make radical changes overnight, but hope to build lasting partnerships across the region which will benefit the whole school community as well as our University. We will evaluate the impact of our outreach across the East Midlands and publish an annual impact report here.
