Wytham Woods

Historic woodlands and a Site of Special Scientific Interest

  • Visitors are welcome to walk in Wytham Woods, but you must obtain a free permit before your visit.
  • To apply for a permit, complete the walking permit application form.
  • More information for visitors, including opening hours, is available on the Wytham Woods website.
  • Parking:
    • There is a free, spacious car park.
    • The car park does not have designated Blue Badge (accessible) parking bays.
    • The surface is made of small stones and compacted earth—firm and relatively level, but with some uneven sections.
  • From the car park:
    • A gate leads into a field with a grass surface.
    • A path from the field goes up a fairly steep hill into the Woods.
  • Alternative entrance:
    • Located a short distance from the main car park.
    • Opens onto a tarmac track through a section of the Woods.
    • This route is also up a fairly steep hill.
