Families and childcare

Oxford University offers a comprehensive range of childcare options and provision for families to help you settle in, to provide support, and to help you get the most out of your studies.

Childcare services

Childcare Services manages multisite nursery provision which comprises four University nurseries and a further eleven nurseries where dedicated nursery places are available for University staff and student parents. Various holiday play schemes exist which offer discounted rates to University parents during the vacations. Four colleges also have their own nurseries - Balliol, St Anne's, Somerville and Wolfson.

Financial support for student parents

There is a limited amount of financial support available for parents who are in full-time education from the UK government. All matriculated students are eligible to apply for the University's Hardship Fund for students who experience unexpected financial difficulties during their studies that could not have been predicted at the start of their course.

Accommodation for families

There is a limited amount of graduate accommodation for couples and families. The University's Accommodation Office can also advise on suitable accommodation for families.

Parental leave

The University's Student Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave Policy (see related documents) provides details of the arrangements for students who are about to have or adopt a child.

University Newcomers' Club

The University's Newcomers' Club is a volunteer-run organisation, aiming to help newly-arrived spouses or partners of graduate students and other members of the University to settle in, by organising a regular programme of social events in Oxford.

Further information

More information about support for student parents is available on the Oxford Student webpages.
