Exams: Celebrate Smart - make memories, not a mess

We want you to celebrate after your exams and time at Oxford. Choose ways to mark your achievements and make memories in ways that don’t involve a mess, damage, disruption or unsafe behaviour. Celebrate the smart way by following this important advice:

Exams: celebrate smart - make memories, not a mess to avoid a £150 fine.

Celebrate smart

Dos and don'ts

Most students have celebrated in positive ways over recent years, without impacting other students or our local community. Please make smart choices when celebrating after your exams, and follow the dos and don'ts:

DoDon’t
  • Celebrate responsibly in Oxford’s green spaces, pubs, and restaurants
  • Look after yourself and your friends
  • Avoid areas around water
  • Tidy up after your respectful celebrations
  • Think about our community, other students, local wildlife and environment
  • Celebrate away from others taking exams
  • Celebrate in unsafe ways, especially around areas of open water, particularly if you have been drinking
  • Throw, pour or spray substances after your exams (even if they're biodegradable) to avoid a £150 fine
  • Waste food, drink or other items on your celebrations
  • Congregate and celebrate around exam venues

Find other ways to celebrate:

  • Have a night out - Stay together with friends and check in with yourself and those around you
  • Enjoy the summer in Oxford's outdoor spaces - Clear up after your respectful celebrations
  • Celebrate with your college community - Celebrate away from exam venues to respect other students
  • Plan a day out - Treat yourself and explore beyond Oxford

Proctors' Officers and the University's Security Services team will be present throughout the city centre to help keep you safe and discuss any concerns. Further personal safety guidance and information as part of the University and Oxford SU's Think TWICE near open water campaign is available on the Oxford Students area of Oxweb.
