About the course

The DPhil in Cardiovascular Science (Vascular Contributions to Dementia) is a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford, Edinburgh, Leicester and University College London, focused on Vascular Contributions to Dementia and Neurodegeneration.

This 4-year DPhil will be funded by The British Heart Foundation and UK Dementia Research Institute.

Students will be based in one of the following institutes: Oxford, Edinburgh, Leicester or UCL, while benefiting from training, co-supervision, and collaboration across the partner institutions.

The course combines interdisciplinary training with in-depth research. Projects will span the full spectrum of research into vascular dementia and neurodegeneration.

Year one

In year one, you will attend an induction programme and training courses. You will undertake training courses and research rotations (at your host institution) before selecting your DPhil project and supervisory team.

Years two to four

Having spent the first year rotating across laboratories to gain training in a broad range of research techniques, you will select a full research project and supervisor for the subsequent three years.

Additional opportunities will include advanced training courses in statistics, writing and presentation skills, programme-wide workshops, and symposia.

Research areas

You will have the opportunity to undertake research within the specialised themes of this course.
