Wi-Fi access in the University
Information on the Wi-Fi services available in the University of Oxford.
University public Wi-Fi service
This is a public Wi-Fi service provided by Sky Wi-Fi which is often used by short-term visitors such as bed-and-breakfast guests or public visitors to University exhibitions. Users need to make an account with Sky Wi-Fi to access the service. It is not managed by the university and end-user support is provided by Sky Wi-Fi directly.
eduroam
Most staff and students use eduroam to access the internet. eduroam is available across the University, and you will also find that you can connect while visiting many other UK and EU higher education institutions. There are no speed restrictions on eduroam at Oxford.
Oxford Wireless LAN (OWL)
Oxford Wireless Lan (OWL) is an Oxford-only wireless service that provides internet access for visitors and University members who haven’t configured eduroam yet. It can be used to access key University websites without needing to sign in.
College Wi-Fi
Many colleges provide their own Wi-Fi networks in addition to the services offered by the University. These services vary from networks aimed at visitors to Wi-Fi available to all college members. To find out more about your college’s Wi-Fi provision please see the local college Wi-Fi guidance page.
