Access Oxford

Deciding whether or not to go to university is a big decision for everyone, but especially if you don't know people who have been, or if you haven't had a chance to find out what it might be like. That's why we run thousands of free events each year, online and in person so anyone anywhere can explore what Oxford has to offer and find out whether it might be their right next step.

Our mission

At Oxford, we know that skilled thinkers and curiosity are everywhere. Equality, diversity and inclusion are central to our mission and we are committed to ensuring that students with academic potential can access and benefit from our world-class teaching, whatever their background.

If you do not know anyone who has been to university, or worry that you might not fit in or have much in common with other students, you are not alone. We know that some exceptionally able students do not see Oxford as a place for them. We want to change that and we are here to help.

While many teachers are very supportive, there are lots of demands on their time, and not everyone has access to the same level of guidance. That is why we run thousands of free events, programmes and opportunities every year, from school-based workshops and residential programmes to regional outreach initiatives. These give learners, families and teachers many ways to find out more about Oxford and our admissions process. We want to ensure that anyone, anywhere, regardless of their circumstances, can connect with us and discover what Oxford has to offer.

Our widening access work extends across the UK, including through Oxford for UK, our regional outreach programme. Tailored events support students in communities historically under-represented in higher education. Through open days, subject tasters, digital resources and outreach networks, we aim to build confidence and equip future applicants with the information they need to consider Oxford.

Whether you are just beginning to explore your options or preparing an application, Access Oxford is here to help you discover opportunities and explore what your future could be - because Oxford is for curious and capable thinkers everywhere.

College and subject department outreach

In addition to central University initiatives, colleges and academic departments run their own outreach programmes and events throughout the year. These activities are also likely to include subject taster sessions, workshops, open days, school visits, and online events designed to support prospective students and teachers. Details of these opportunities can be found on individual college and department websites. There you will find the most up-to-date information about upcoming events, eligibility and how to take part. Our college and course pages also introduce these activities.
