Oxford’s intellectual property policy

The University’s Intellectual Property (IP) policy governs the ownership and management of University IP; and the University’s discretionary scheme to share net revenue with individual University contributors.

The University’s IP Policy is set out in Statute XVI Part B: Property, Contracts, and Trusts and the Regulations for the Administration of the University's Intellectual Property Policy (Council Regulations 7 of 2002).

This IP Policy applies to all University employees, students and extend to visitors working at the University.

Students agree to be legally bound by the University IP Policy when they accept a place at Oxford and sign the Student Contract with the University, For students, the University IP Policy clarifies the conditions when the student will own IP they generate and the conditions when the University will own IP they generate at the University.

Visitors working at the University agree to be legally bound by the University IP Policy when they accept a place at the University of Oxford and sign a Visitor or Secondment Agreement.
