Even before you arrive, you’ll receive lots of guidance and practical steps to help you prepare. From completing your registration and setting up your student account to hearing from your college, you’ll have the information you need ahead of your arrival.

When you first arrive, your college will be at the centre of your experience. Welcome activities, induction sessions, and opportunities to meet other students are designed to help you get orientated during your first few weeks - a time when everyone else is new too. You’ll be introduced to your tutors, learn how your course is taught, and begin to understand how Oxford’s education works in practice.

Freshers’ Week is often seen as a big moment, but it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. It’s designed to be flexible, with a wide range of activities to suit different interests and energy levels. There’s no 'right' way to take part - it’s simply a chance to meet people, explore your surroundings and start to feel at home.

You’ll also be introduced to the systems and tools you’ll use day to day, from your University email and online learning platforms to resources that help you manage your timetable and stay organised.

Obviously, settling in is about more than logistics. Starting at Oxford is exciting, but it can also feel like a significant change - and that’s entirely normal. Colleges, tutors, welfare teams, and peer supporters all play a role in helping you adjust, offering guidance and reassurance as you find your rhythm.

Your first few weeks are a time to explore, ask questions, and get to know your new environment. Whether you’re navigating the city, discovering your preferred study spaces, or building new routines, you’ll gradually find what works for you.
