From this term, all staff including academics, professional services and support staff, research staff, and students will have access to a range of enhanced, in-person and online courses from specialists within the University, on the use of ChatGPT Edu and other generative AI tools.

ChatGPT Edu available to all students

OpenAI’s flagship GPT-5 model will be provided across the University and Oxford Colleges through ChatGPT Edu, a version of ChatGPT built for universities that includes enterprise-level security and controls.

New for the 2025-26 academic year, all students will be provided with access to free, individual ChatGPT Edu accounts.

These ensure appropriate privacy and security standards for those wishing to explore generative AI whilst at Oxford. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the University’s guidance on safe and responsible use before activating your account. There are also responses to questions you may have (SSO required) available on the Oxford Students website. Look out for more information, including details of the training and support you can access, from the start of term.
