Student social media content creator opportunities

The University is on the lookout for students to help create, present, and edit social media content – bringing Oxford’s research, news, and campaigns to life as part-time Social Media Content Creators.

Deadline for applications Friday 23 January 2026.

The University’s social media team is looking to hire a small group of Oxford undergraduates and postgraduates to help present and create content for its flagship channels. With a combined audience of over 11 million, you will be creating content that sits on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and other traditional social media channels such as X, LinkedIn and Facebook.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be the face of Oxford’s biggest research and news stories – breaking them down in a way the public can actually understand. Sometimes you’ll film and edit the videos yourself, and other times our social or video team will handle filming while you focus on presenting.

You may also interview academics, researchers and students when a story calls for it, bringing their insights straight to our audiences.

What we’re looking for

We’re after content creators who can:

  • Present confidently, clearly and naturally on camera
  • Film themselves to a high standard
  • Edit short-form social videos quickly and accurately to meet deadlines
  • Break down technical research and University news in a concise, accessible way
  • Bring creative thinking to each story - finding angles that feel fresh, relevant and engaging
  • Deliver strong, clean edits with a focus on clarity and impact
  • Strong scripting instincts
  • Good understanding of social media knowledge and their trends
  • Awareness of accessibility – understanding of the importance of clear audio, readable on-screen text, on-screen captions
  • Strong on detail and accuracy
  • Contribute ideas, join discussions and collaborate with the University’s digital team

What you’ll get

  • Hands-on experience representing one of the world’s most recognisable universities on social media
  • Exposure to a huge range of research, news and campaign work across Oxford
  • Social media training from the University’s digital team
  • Video production support, including filming and editing training from Oxford’s video team

Who can apply and essential requirements

  • Ability to present on camera
  • Aged 18+
  • Based in the UK with right to work
  • Must be an Oxford University student (undergraduate or postgraduate)
  • Must have permission from your supervisor or Senior Tutor

Hours/Pay

You’ll be paid £14.50 per hour for your time, including filming and editing.

Each content creator will produce at least one video per academic term, with opportunities to take on additional videos depending on workload and upcoming research, news and campaign stories.
