UAO Ambassador Roles

APPLICATIONS TO BECOME A UAO AMBASSADOR FOR 2025-26 ARE NOW CLOSED. If you have any further enquiries, please email [email protected]

To make an application to become a UAO ambassador, please fill in this form.

The Undergraduate Admissions & Outreach (UAO) department runs events and projects throughout the year.

Current University students are the most important aspect of being able to facilitate these events. These students act as UAO Student Ambassadors (both as Outreach Ambassadors and as International Student Ambassadors).

Student Ambassadors are fantastic role models for prospective applicants. They provide motivation and inspiration through their own experiences, and they are seen a trusted source of information about what studying at Oxford is like.

UAO recruit student ambassadors each academic year. This year we will have an ambassador scheme for domestic events (any student can be an ambassador for these events) and an ambassador scheme for international student events (you must be an international student to be on this scheme).

Apply to become an ambassador

Ambassador recruitment is a competitive process that includes:

  • Completing an application alongside the expectations from the Student Ambassador job description (deadline Wednesday 12 November 23:00)
  • Taking part in an assessment centre (usually 0th / 1st week Hilary)
  • Completing training provided by UAO (online training course)

Being a Student Ambassador is a paid role. Hourly rate varies depending on the role you undertake.

You can find the Outreach and International Ambassador job description documents below:

Thank you for your interest in becoming an outreach ambassador, please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

About UAO's outreach programmes

UNIQ

UNIQ is open to Year 12 students based at UK state schools/colleges who can be selected to participate in one of three activities (UNIQ Spring/UNIQ Summer/UNIQ Digital). In all of our activities we aim to give students a realistic view of Oxford student life. On UNIQ Spring or Summer participants live in an Oxford college/annexe and attend lectures and seminars in their chosen area, and workshops about applying to Oxford. UNIQ Digital is an online learning platform offering courses and content about studying at the University.

Outreach ambassadors work on a week of the residential, working closely with a group of participants, providing academic and pastoral support within a college setting.

Ambassadors who have previously worked on UNIQ might want to consider the Site Manager role, which involves managing a college site and a team of ambassadors to provide excellent support and advice to participants.

Opportunity Oxford

Opportunity Oxford is an ambitious academic bridging programme that helps to prepare talented UK offer-holders from under-represented backgrounds for successful student careers at Oxford. The programme explores and develops high-level academic skills which will support offer-holders in their transition to the University. Opportunity Oxford has three key components: a virtual welcome day in February, an online academic course during the summer, and a two-week residential in Oxford in September before term starts.

Student Conferences

The annual Choosing Oxford student conference is designed to bring up-to-date information about Oxford courses, the application process, and admissions procedures to prospective applicants. The online events are aimed at Year 12 students who have completed their GCSE examinations (or equivalent) and are now undertaking further study.

Outreach ambassadors may also be asked to take part in Q&A sessions in front of a large online audience.

Communications

As an Outreach Ambassador you will be asked to provide essential feedback on our communications to prospective students, from the undergraduate prospectus, to Instagram, to the development of our website.

You'll also have the chance to share your experiences of Oxford with prospective applicants, through opportunities to provide quotes or be involved in informal video or audio projects for our channels.

In this way, you will directly influence the messages we send prospective applicants and play an essential part in helping us myth-bust!

Study Higher

A collaborative outreach programme working with Oxford Brookes, University of Reading and Buckinghamshire New University. Activity is targeted at students in Years 10, 11 and 12 and their teachers.

A variety of work spread across the academic year is available to Outreach Ambassadors.

'Ethnicity' and 'religion' details will be extracted from the application data we receive when applications close and will have no connection to your application. We ask for ‘ethnicity’ and ‘religion’ to assist in how we advertise the ambassador scheme within Oxford as well as clubs and societies and within the student body for next year’s ambassador recruitment.
