Each year, the Physics and Materials Science Departments collaborate on a full day of workshops and talks aimed at Year 12 students. During this fun-filled yet instructive activity day, participants will be given the opportunity to carry out experiments in both departments and will learn more about these exciting subjects.

If you are studying Maths and Physics at A level (or equivalent) and are interested in Materials Science and Physics, come along to Oxford University to find out more!

This event is open to high-achieving Year 12 students from UK schools who are studying Maths and Physics at A-level (or equivalent). This event is intended for students who enjoy science and who would like to find out more about Physics and Materials Science at university.

Teachers are required to apply for places on behalf of theirs students.

***Places are limited so booking is essential***

Since these events are very popular we ask you to limit the number of students from a single school to 6 on any one day. If you wish to enquire about bringing more students please contact us by emailing [email protected], however we have a very limited capacity for these events so these requests are unlikely to be able to be accommodated.

We request, where possible, that at least half of the students in your group identify as female. You may wish to consider working with another local school if this could be a challenge.

Priority will be given to students from schools with little or no history of applications to Oxford.

How to book

Please fill in this form to apply for places on the 2024 Materials & Physics Day. The deadline for submitting this form is 30 October 2024. Please note that completing this form does not guarantee you places on the event - we will inform all applicants by 6 November whether their application has been successful.

As this event is during the school day, we request that registrations for students are completed by a teacher.

As we are asking for group applications through teachers rather than individual student registrations, student groups will need to be accompanied by an adult who can be responsible for their attendance on the day and act as a point of contact. This can be a teacher or other school staff member, or a designated parent if staff are unable to accompany.

You can find more information on our website. If you have any questions, please contact us by emailing [email protected].
