Inspire Critical Thinking
Inspire Critical Thinking is a free online course open to all pupils in Year 9-12 (or equivalent) from non-selective UK state schools. The course focuses on a central theme which is approached from a variety of subject viewpoints, and each 'workshop' includes articles, interviews, recorded lectures, and challenges developed by University of Oxford academics and students.
- Year 9: Why is language so powerful?
- Year 10: Does crime always deserve punishment?
- Year 11/12: What does the future hold?
By taking part in the programme, pupils will have the opportunity to explore their interests in depth, discover new and exciting topics which they might not have studied before, and develop confidence in their critical thinking ability. Pupils will also have the chance to submit responses to workshop challenges to be in with a chance of winning prizes, in addition to sharing their opinions in our forum and casting their vote on key debates.
Following the workshops, all registered pupils will be invited to attend the Inspire Virtual Summer School. For pupils in Year 11, there is also a competitive application process for a free Inspire Residential Summer School at St John’s College.
The first workshop launches in January 2026 and the final workshop launches in April 2026. Register by 7 December 2025 to secure your place.
