How Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies work

An introductory taster session for prospective applicants to Computer Science by one of our tutors at St Catherine's College as part of the University Open Days.

Dr Amir Goharshady leads the ALPACAS (Algorithms, Logic, Program Analysis, Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts) research group, an amazing team of talented young mathematicians and computer scientists. His research interests are in theoretical computer science, specifically formal program verification, parametrised algorithms, compiler optimisation and blockchain.

We hope you can join us at Catz during these events to see our college, chat to our students, and equip yourself with the information that you need to make an informed decision about your future!

Please note that owing to space restrictions, only prospective students can attend these subject sessions. Families, supporters and teachers can enjoy a tour at this time.
