Call for expressions of interest in joining the Oxford Policy Engagement Network (OPEN) Steering Group

The OPEN Steering Group is calling for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from researchers from any department or faculty at Oxford within six years of submission of their doctoral thesis to serve on the group.

About the Oxford Policy Engagement Network

OPEN is growing community of researchers, doctoral students and professional services staff at the University who share a vision of public policy powered by the world’s best available research evidence and expertise. The network’s mission is to equip its members to share knowledge and expertise with the policymaking community so that, together, they can contribute to better policies that protect what is valuable and change the world for the better

About the role

As a member of the Steering Group, you will have the opportunity to shape the University’s approach to delivery of the OPEN Strategy. You will contribute to the group’s understanding of how policy engagement is perceived and practiced at different career stages. You are also likely to be involved in reviewing applications for and allocating competitive funding for relevant research, and reviewing plans developed by the Policy Engagement Team, progress in implementation, and making recommendations accordingly.

The Steering Group includes representatives of all four Divisions, as well as heads of houses with relevant expertise and experience. Its Terms of Reference (TOR) can be found here. Members serve for a minimum of one year. The group usually meets on a termly basis for 90 minutes.

Eligibility

This is an open call. EoI from researchers in departments or faculties that are not represented on the Steering Group are particularly welcome. Any researcher expressing interest must

  • Be within six years of submission of their doctoral thesis; and
  • Be employed by a department or faculty at the University and hold a full-time or part-time, fixed-term research, or teaching and research, contract, with at least 12 months remaining on that contract when expressing interest.

How to express interest

EoI should be no more than 1 page long, and include

  • Your name, department/faculty and post;
  • The value you would bring to the group; and
  • Up to three issues related to the group’s TOR that you think it should address.

EoI should be sent to [email protected] by 5 p.m. on 26 July 2021.

Should you have any questions about the role, please do not hesitate to contact William Pryor ([email protected]).
