Current opportunities to join University committees as a researcher representative
Would you like to have a say about the issues which researchers face?
Do you want to empower researchers by representing their perspective in decision making?
If so, see the following opportunities that are open to all fixed term research and teaching staff.
Transforming Oxford's Digital Communications: Researcher representative on Project Board
Background:
We are seeking a researcher representative for a Project Board within the Transforming Oxford’s Digital Communications programme.
Transforming Digital Comms is part of the University’s digital transformation. It aims to overhaul Oxford’s internal and external communications channels, to improve engagement with staff, students and external audiences.
As part of that work, the Intranet Project Board is overseeing the introduction of OxIntranet, an Oxford-wide internal service for everyone who works and studies at Oxford.
The intranet Project Board includes board from staff in departments, colleges and the central University. However, these are largely professional services staff, and we are missing a researcher voice. Given that researchers are a key audience, this is something we are very keen to address.
Additional eligibility requirements:
This opportunity is open to all fixed term research and teaching staff.
Time commitments:
The Project Board meets once per month for one hour, and the only commitment outside of that is reading advance papers. Induction meetings will be offered to the selected researcher representative.
Engagement with researcher community and other researcher reps:
The representative on the Project Board will be encouraged to engage in two-way communication with the researcher representatives network (via the Research Staff Consultation Group) about the work of the Board.
More information:
Go to the Transforming Oxford's Digital Communications programme webpage.
To apply:
Please send an email to [email protected] explaining why you would like to join the Project Board (~200 words) by Wednesday 10 September 2025. The Research Staff Consultation Group will select the representative for the Board in the event than more than one Expression of Interest is received.
Safety Executive Group (SEG)
Background:
The purpose of Safety Executive Group (SEG) is to provide effective leadership for the safety management system and safety culture. The SEG is responsible for creating and monitoring the management strategy and policies necessary for the University to discharge its legal and other obligations in respect of occupational health, safety and the environment. The SEG is a senior committee that reports to Council.
Time commitments:
SEG meets four times per year in person at University Offices. Papers will be circulated prior to the meeting. The researcher representative on SEG will be invited to meet with other researchers to share non-confidential outcomes of the meeting, usually on a termly basis.
More information:
For more information, including membership of the SEG, see Safety Executive Group | Governance and Planning.
To apply:
Please send an email to [email protected] explaining why you would like to join the SEG (~200 words) by Wednesday 10 September 2025. The Research Staff Consultation Group will select the representative for the Group in the event that more than one expression of interest is received.
Oxford Values Workshop
Background:
To achieve our goal of investing in our people, we launched the University People Strategy in February this year. The first outcome of this strategy is to create a great place to work for everyone. To accomplish this, we aim to establish a set of Oxford Values and make them central to everything we do. We want to work together to define our shared values, drawing on the experiences of colleagues from the centre, divisions and departments, colleges, and both current and former students.
Time commitments:
As part of this initiative, we invite research staff to participate in a workshop, which is the first step in co-creating our values. This workshop will provide a safe environment for you to share your thoughts and help shape our values and the associated behaviours that will exemplify them. The workshops will be held in person at a convenient location and will last approximately two hours.
To join:
If you are interested in attending a workshop please contact Joanne Mason ([email protected]), the workshops will be scheduled to be held in September.
