Let's Talk About: Surveillance

Thursday 12 March

Disease surveillance helps us spot outbreaks early, track patterns and look after public health. But it can also feel uncomfortable. As more everyday data is used to predict and prevent pandemics, questions about trust, transparency and who gets a say become harder to ignore. This is the second 'Let's Talk About' event created with the Pandemic Sciences Institute. Join us at the History of Science Museum for conversations exploring questions such as ‘how do you identify emerging pandemic threats?’ and ‘how should we navigate everyday data – from social media to wearable devices – being used in public health?’.

Pond Life

Monday 30 March

Families are invited to dive into the wonderful world of pond life at two events at the Museum of Natural History this month. Join in for fun, hands-on events where kids can discover the amazing creatures that live in ponds. Those heading along can also make their own pond-themed craft to take home with them and get an up-close look at real museum specimens – from fascinating frogs to incredible insects. Pond Life also runs on Tuesday 31 March. Head to the museum to explore, create and learn about the animals that call ponds home! Free event, no booking required. Recommended for children aged 3+.

Houseplant Care

Thursday 23 April

Learn how to care for your houseplants with expert horticulturists, including how to feed, water and manage pests and diseases, at this event at the Oxford Botanic Garden. The course will begin with a tour of the plants growing in the glasshouses at the Botanic Garden and will be followed by a demonstration and workshop in the Conservatory. This is a chance for you to get some top tips and advice, and be inspired to try out new techniques with the plants in your own home.

Event submissions are moderated, so bear in mind that your event will not appear immediately. All event managers should be aware of the University’s code of practice for meeting and events.

Please note that events published on these pages will also be submitted to Daily Info, Oxford through an automatic feed.
