The New Science of the Body Clock, and how it can Revolutionize your Sleep and Health

Our biology is governed by a 24-hour biological (circadian) clock that advises us when it is the best time to sleep, eat, think, and undertake a myriad of other essential tasks. Progress in understanding the nature of circadian biology has been astonishing, and this knowledge has added to our appreciation of the biological world. In this talk, Professor Russell Foster will unpack the science of circadian rhythms, and how this new biology can be used to make more informed decisions to improve our lives.

Reckoning with Brexit five years on: what happens next?

Five years on from the UK officially withdrawing from the EU, an expert panel at Trinity College will try and separate the facts from the noise about what Brexit has meant for the UK. They will also look ahead to what a post-Brexit economy and country mean under a new Labour government. Part of the Trinity Talks series of events, the expert panel in January 2025 will be chaired by Professor Anand Menon, Director of UK in a Changing Europe, joined by the Institute for Government’s Director, Hannah White, and Paul Johnson, Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

Writing contemporary fiction for younger readers

Wednesday 5 February

The Kellogg Centre for Creative Writing will welcome multi award-winning author of contemporary fiction for young people, Ele Fountain, for a seminar in February 2025. Her books explore subjects which infuse our daily lives, examining the connection between media perception and reality. Her debut novel, Boy 87, won four awards, and her second, Lost, was a Guardian Children’s Book of the Year. Fake has been selected as a BookTrust Future Classic and Wild was a Financial Times Best Book of the Year. Her latest novel, Storm Child, was a Times Book of the Week.
