Tests for students applying to study Music

Candidates who are shortlisted and invited to attend an interview in Oxford will take the following tests:

  1. Performance of a prepared piece or pieces (about 7 minutes long in total) on the candidate’s principal instrument or voice. Accompaniment is provided by the Faculty (and special arrangements will be made for organists and percussionists).
  2. Candidates not possessing keyboard fluency to ABRSM Grade V may be asked to take a standardised keyboard sight-reading test at interview.

Some tutors may ask you to study a short piece of music and/or text about music in preparation for your interview; if so, this material will be given to you during your stay in Oxford.

Candidates who are not invited to an interview in Oxford will not be required to take these tests.
