Stunning comeback gives Oxford Varsity victory

Oxford won a third consecutive rugby union Varsity match today, thanks to a superb second-half comeback at Twickenham.

Oxford beat Cambridge 26-19, having been 19-6 behind shortly after half-time.

Cambridge took control in the opening half with a converted try and three penalties, but an impressive try from fly-half Sam Egerton gave Oxford a foothold in the game shortly after interval.

This spurred on the Dark Blues, who scored two more tries courtesy of Sam Harris and Charlie Marr. Marr added a penalty and a conversion and Cassian Bramham-Law also scored a penalty to ease Oxfod clear of their great rivals.

The game was followed by many students, alumni and fans on Twitter, where Oxford University Sport wrote commentary updates from Twickenham.

Oxford received online support from ITV presenter Holly Willoughby before the game, and a message of congratulations from the Rugby Football Union as the final whistle blew.
