Pirates, poets, and 'plagiarism': How Byron translated and was translated by Greek poetry and reality

Professor of Poetry, A.E. Stallings, will deliver her next lecture on the subject of Pirates, poets, and 'plagiarism': How Byron translated and was translated by Greek poetry and reality in the Examination Schools this month. This is a free, public lecture and all are welcome. A.E. Stallings is an American poet who studied Classics at the University of Georgia and Oxford. Among her published works are four collections of poetry, Archaic Smile, Hapax, and Olives, and most recently, Like, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Curious Adventures in Nature Smartphone Workshop

Saturday 6 July

In this event, multi-disciplinary contemporary artist Graham Fudger will explain how to use your smartphone camera to capture and manipulate exquisite images of nature that explore colour, texture and light. The workshop will begin with a session in the Museum of Natural History where Graham will outline his approach to finding aesthetic value in nature. Participants can then explore University Parks, taking photos of their surroundings, including an opportunity to learn how to use time-lapse and plant identifier apps. The workshop will conclude back at the Museum.

Bruegel to Rubens: Great Flemish Drawings

Ongoing to 23 June 2024

A major exhibition at the Ashmolean showcasing over 100 exceptional Flemish drawings from the 16th and 17th centuries. They represent some of the most exquisite drawings created by many of the Flemish masters such as Pieter Bruegel, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Jacques Jordaens. These artworks, accompanied by paintings, prints and other objects they inspired, will be brought together for the first time.
