For Families

As a parent or carer,  you are in an excellent position to support your child as they make decisions about their education. Here at Oxford, we really value students' families and want you to have all the information you need to feel confident in your important supporting role.

On this page, you will find information and resources to help you support your child’s application

Online resources

The University of Oxford publishes webpages directed at families that want to find out more about studying at Oxford. These pages include guidance on choosing the right course and the application process as well as information about student life. We also provide information on the support the University can provide students, including welfare and financial support, as well as how we support students after they have graduated.

We also publish a Families’ Guide: supporting an Oxford applicant which can be read on line or downloaded. This is available in Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu as well as English.

Open Days

The University holds three Open Days, two in June or July and one in September, each year. All colleges and departments will be open to prospective students to visit. While you do not need to apply to visit us on an Open Day, sessions in some academic departments will require you to register in advance. During the pandemic, these have been organised as virtual events.

Visiting Oxford

You’re welcome to visit Oxford independently by going to see the colleges during their opening hours. When you arrive at a college entrance, inform the people there that you are a prospective applicant and they should allow you to enter for free. Please check each college website for their visiting hours before your visit and feel free to email us in advance.

If you’re unable to visit Oxford in person, there are plenty of online alternatives, including:
