Senior Research Associate, Department of Engineering Science

About

Dr Oktay Cetinkaya is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford, working as a Synthesis Fellow of the PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for IoT Systems Cybersecurity. In addition to his role at Oxford, he is also a Lecturer (in Sensor Systems) at Newcastle University.

Before joining the Oxford e-Research Centre (OeRC) at the Department of Engineering Science to synthesise the diverse elements of the PETRAS research base, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield (in Wireless Network Performance) and the University of Southampton (in Networked Embedded Systems) for two years each. He received his PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Koç University, Turkey, and he holds a double major in Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering (H. Hons).

Dr Cetinkaya is a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers); a Member of the BSI’s IOT/1 Internet of Things and Digital Twin Committee, a Steering Group Member of the e-Futures Network, a Synthesis Fellow and Governance Board Member of PETRAS, and the technical expert/evaluator for various European Council-funded projects/hubs. He also works closely with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), and the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSIT).

Dr Cetinkaya’s research interests include energy harvesting, wireless power transfer, drone networking, and the Internet of Things (IoT), on which he has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in highly respected journals, conference proceedings, and book series. Along with his research outputs, he contributes to the academic community in different capacities, e.g., giving seminars and talks at various events, chairing expert panels/discussions, serving as a reviewer for (IEEE/ACM/IET) journals, evaluating grant proposals for funding bodies, participating in conference organisations as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member, and leading journal special issues as a Guest/Associate Editor.
