Late Night: Aloha - The Art of Storytelling

Friday 8 November

Celebrate Hawaiian culture and creativity at a special ALOHA Late Night event at the Pitt Rivers Museum. Book your free place and sign up for a Hula workshop or just enjoy watching the Hula performance in the galleries; join Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos to make a collaborative artwork; relax with films and poetry or try a bit of retail therapy with a pop-up shop selling Kapa and barkcloth jewellery; explore the stunning Ma uka to Ma Kai exhibition and pick up a trail to find Hawaiian objects in the cases, then simply enjoy the galleries after dark with music and a pop-up bar.

Fantasy Futures: Guardians of Oxford

Seamlessly blending the real world and computer-generated content, Fantasy Futures takes you on a journey through Oxford – but not as you know it. The city’s gargoyles have guarded it for centuries – now they are locked in a battle with ancient and modern enemies to protect the dreaming spires from a new threat. This free, family-friendly, monster-themed interactive experience, inside a customised city centre venue, will lead you through a multisensory, gamified environment, featuring the latest motion capture and Extended Reality (XR) technologies.

Professor Lucy Easthope has been a disaster planner for two turbulent decades. She works in preparedness, response and aftermath and throughout this time has challenged others to think differently about what comes next, after tragic events. She is known globally for her work and holds research positions in the UK and New Zealand, and is a Professor in Mass Fatalities and Pandemics at the Centre for Death and Society, University of Bath. Her book When the Dust Settles: Stories of Love, Loss and Hope from an Expert in Disaster was a Sunday Times bestseller.
