William Shakespeare’s ‘Walking with Dinosaurs'

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Walking with Dinosaurs with a new theatrical production combining the prehistoric and the renaissance, adapting two episodes of the television series into Shakespearean drama, at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Witness the majestic sea monster Liopleurodon grapple with a Tempest and a T. Rex ponder 'two claws, or not two claws?'. There will be comedy, tragedy, heroes, villains, dinosaurs and maybe even an asteroid — all presented before you by a group of [decidedly-human] actors. The end result is sure to be up-roar-ious!

Carbon dioxide removal: Are science and policy keeping up with the market?

Even with stringent and rapid reductions in emission of greenhouse gases it is clear, and has been since the Paris agreement in 2015, that we will need to remove hundreds of billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere to keep warming below 2C∘. CO2 removal (CDR) presents both a challenge and a dilemma to environmental scientists and regulators. The Oxford Networks for the Environment (ONE) annual lecture, followed by panel discussion, will ask: what do we need to do, as the demand for CDR credits grows, to ensure that credits have real climate value and are not causing unintended environmental harm?

The Sheldonian Series continues with a panel discussion on 'The Power of Activism'. From climate change to democracy and peace, has activism failed? Or has our world been shaped by activism in more ways than we recognise? What role should activism play in society? Panellists: Federica Genovese, Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Oxford; Dr Munira Mirza, Chief Executive, Civic Future; Dominique Palmer, Climate Justice Activist, Youth Climate Justice Fund; Shermar Pryce, President (Communities and Common Rooms), Student Union, Oxford; with pre-recorded contribution from Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, CBE.
