Abstract Paintings of Peter Lanyon Workshop
Discover the techniques of Peter Lanyon, the British painter from St Ives, whose landscapes leant heavily towards abstraction, with artist Kieran Stiles.
This workshop is all about the edges where elements meet in painting. What happens when water meets land, or clouds collide with a cliff face, or rain drives into a forest?
You will explore oil painting techniques and the methods of abstraction pioneered by the ground-breaking St Ives painter Peter Lanyon and the St Ives art of the 1940-60, which included drawn motifs such as circles, arcs and other geometric forms and textures inspired by structures in the natural world.
One-day practical session in the Ashmolean Learning Studio. Participants will have the chance to learn from Kieran Stiles and produce their own abstract paintings in the style of Peter Lanyon. All materials will be provided.
This event is part of our Shaped by Nature season of events.
