Abstract: While advances in AI holds great promise for its potential applications in supporting health, health care and ageing well, there is a real risk that it can make mistakes, malfunction and ultimately cause greater harm than good. AI algorithms are not infallible, and its outputs depend on the quality of its inputs and how we regulate them. This seminar will help to explain the potential benefits, but also the real risks that currently exist in using AI in the support and care of older persons who have very unique needs that are often not appreciated or well considered. We will also explore what safeguards need to be considered to ensure AI can ultimately promote healthy ageing and ageing in the right place.
