Dr Claas Mertens is a Research Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government and Worcester College, University of Oxford. His research examines geoeconomics and the international political economy of climate change, with a focus on economic sanctions, weaponised interdependence, and systemic risk. His work appears in International Studies Quarterly and The Review of International Organizations. He previously held a fellowship at Princeton’s Niehaus Center and holds a DPhil in International Relations from Oxford. Dr Mertens has taught quantitative methods and advises on geopolitical risk and policy.
