An exclusive in-person and online talk for members of the Ashmolean with Dr Katharina Ulmschneider, Senior Research Fellow Worcester College, Oxford and Director HEIR (Historic Environment Image Resource).

This ancient camel, a favourite Museum object, has had an adventurous life for over more than 1,000 years, not least in the last 100.

Camels and other objects were commonly placed in tombs of the wealthy in northern China during the Yang dynasty (618 to 907 AD).

Katharina will explain how this earthenware camel fled the Nazis and arrived in Oxford. The camel currently resides in Gallery 28 of the Museum.

Booking is required.
