Beginning with the contemporary Iraqi painter Dia al-Azzawi (b. 1939), celebrated in our current exhibition Dia al-Azzawi: Painting Poetry in gallery 8, this talk with introduce some of the most important figures and trends of Arab modern art.

Looking at the period between the 1950s and 1970s especially, Dr Leoni will also be discussing a selection of little-known works from the Ashmolean collection.

This is the fourth talk of our Illuminating Insights series of monthly talks for Ashmolean Members.
