Khamira in Concert at St Peter's College
Comprising three musicians from Wales and three from India, Khamira perform 'Improvised World Music' - Hindustani classical music, jazz, Welsh folk, rock and deep grooves all blend seamlessly to create an unique world fusion.
Khamira have performed at music festivals worldwide in India (Goa and Kolkata Jazz Festivals), South Korea (Seoul Music Week, ACC World Music Festival Guangju) and Wales (Hay-on-Wye Literature Festival, Fishguard International Music Festival) since their inception in 2015, and released their second album Undod/Unity last autumn to widespread acclaim.
Suhail Yusuf Khan's sarangi and vocals dovetail with Tomos Williams' trumpet, Vishal Nagar's tabla dances with Mark O'Connor's deep drum grooves while Aditya Balani's guitar soars over Aidan Thorne's relentless bass lines.
Khamira's music is real world-fusion - imagine the cinematic scope of the Pat Metheny Group and the grunge funk of Miles Davis' 70s band inter-twinned with passages of melancholic Welsh folk music and Indian classical virtuosity.
