'The Sonnet' provokes extreme reactions! For some, it is the peak of poetic achievement and for others it is a trap or dead end.

When did it first begin to influence English Literature, why does it exercise such a pull on the imagination of poets, and does it remain relevant for 20th and 21st Century poetry?

With Professor Christine Gerrard (St Hilda's 1977), Chair of the English Faculty, University of Oxford; Barbara Scott, Fellow and Tutor in English, Lady Margaret Hall and Vincent Gillespie (Keble 1972), Emeritus J R R Tolkien Professor of English Literature and Language and Keble Honorary Fellow.

The event will be hosted by Honorary Fellow, Robin Geffen (Keble 1976).

All Welcome.
