About Spillover: Planet of Viruses
Ebola, Marburg, Nipah, COVID-19 and now avian flu. The list of deadly viruses jumping from animals to humans keeps on growing. Scientists estimate there are over 10,000 yet-to-be-discovered viruses with the potential to infect humans.
These viruses thrive peacefully in their animal hosts, often without causing harm. This is why newly emerging viruses often appear to us to be coming out of nowhere, in the blink of an eye, a phenomenon known as 'spillover'. This one critical moment, when a virus jumps from animal to human, is key to preventing future pandemics.
The gripping documentary Spillover embarks on a global journey to uncover the answers, offering an urgent and eye-opening look at the origins of some of the world’s deadliest viruses. The film is both an urgent wake-up call and a fascinating journey of discovery. Providing a unique insight into the connections between humans, animals and the environment, it challenges us to fundamentally rethink our relationship with nature.
