An Evening of Musick with Mr Pepys
Civil war, political upheaval, a great fire and plague; London certainly had its fair share of drama during the 17th Century, and it was there that Samuel Pepys lived, worked and played.
The music performed in this concert reflects the sounds and colours Pepys would have experienced at the theatre in works by Henry Purcell, the music by the likes of Matthew Locke that he himself would have played, and finally the music that he owned, brought to life from the many books and scores of his famous library.
This concert is part of the Instruments of Time and Truth Summer Concert Series 2022, and is generously supported by both John Osborn and Continuo Foundation.
Instruments of Time and Truth are Oxford’s own period instrument orchestra, presenting world-class performances of Baroque and Classical music in Oxford and around the UK.
