Engineers have always pushed the boundaries of the possible. We are pleased to invite you to the 2023 Lubbock Lectures, which this year showcase Engineering at the Extremes.

Our 2023 Lubbock Memorial lecturer is Sir Ian Chapman, CEO of the UK Atomic Energy Authority and world expert on the extreme engineering of ultra-hot plasma containment needed to make fusion power a reality. Ian will present the challenges of making fusion reactors operate and how engineering is providing solutions even in the most extreme environments.

The Lubbock supporting lectures cover the breadth of Oxford Engineering Science. Dr Chiara Falsetti will talk about how extreme temperatures, found from hypersonic flight to high-power electronics, can be managed. Professor Konstantina Vogiatzaki takes us to the other extreme, discussing ultracool fluid dynamics. Professor Dan Eakins will present his research in hypervelocity shocks and material collapse.
