Tuesday and Wednesday 26-27 November (10.30am–4pm).
No experience is required
With Asma Hashmi, printmaker
Take inspiration from the emotive themes of activist artists Elizabeth Catlett and Sue Coe, while you learn the innovative printing techniques of Félix Buhot, to produce multi-layered Drypoint prints and confront social justice issues in your own artwork.
Drypoint printing allows for rich, velvety lines and is excellent for rendering detailed, expressive imagery. The technique involves scratching an image onto a plate with a sharp needle, creating a soft, intense line. This quality is particularly well-suited to the depth and intensity needed to convey the emotional and political themes borrowed from artists Catlett and Coe.
Guided by printmaker Asma, you will learn how to create contrast for emphasis and layering to introduce colour variations and enhance depth. These are the techniques you will be taught to produce your own 'Prints for Protest'.
All materials will be provided.
