Deceiving the Eye - The artistic technique of foreshortening
To create the illusion of space on a flat (two-dimensional) surface requires the understanding and mastery of a number of techniques, one of which is foreshortening – in which shapes are compressed and overlapped to mimic what the eyes sees. This exhibition will show how artists of the Renaissance and the Baroque explored the technique in their drawings.
