An Evening of New Music

About this event:
Join us for an evening of new music featuring world and UK premières by Nicola LeFanu, Kristina Arakelyan, Anna Appleby, Joanna Ward and Lucas Jordan.

The centrepiece of the programme is The Moth-Ghost, a dramatic scene for soprano and piano by Nicola LeFanu specially commissioned for this concert. It sets a poem written by James Harpur. Thetis, a sea-goddess of Greek mythology, knew that however she might try to protect her son Achilles, he must die eventually. In the poem, she is a grief-stricken mother, mourning his death in the Trojan war. He has died young where she, an immortal, will live forever, haunted by her memories.

The concert will also present pieces especially written for this performance by Kristina Arakelyan and Joanna Ward, as well as world and UK premiere performances by Anna Appleby and Lucas Jordan.

Gabriella Di Laccio soprano | Clelia Iruzun piano | Lucas Jordan flute

Join the composers and performers for a drink after the concert.

FREE event - donation will be appreciated.

This concert is supported by the PRS Foundation The Open Fund for organisations as well as Oxford Centre for Live Writing, RE:DRESS Women Composers Project - Wolfson College
