Dr Kathryn Sophia Belle is Director of the Africana Research Center and Associate Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies at Penn State University. She is also the Founding Director of the Collegium of Black Women Philosophers.

Dr Belle will give the first on-site Joyce Mitchell Cook Lecture, in which she will discuss the work of Joyce Mitchell Cook alongside that of two other Black women philosophers - all with transatlantic connections.

Dr Joyce Mitchell Cook (PPP, 1955) was a pioneering alumna of St Hilda’s College who became the first Black American woman to earn a doctorate in Philosophy in the USA, guiding and inspiring future generations of women to follow in her footsteps.
