Student Resolution Service

The Student Resolution Service is a free mediation service for students finding themselves in conflict with another student.

What is mediation?

The Student Resolution Service is a confidential and carefully managed space to voice your feelings and to hear the view point of another, a chance to be heard but also to hear. Our team of mediators is trained in facilitating conversations in a non-judgemental and safe space.

Our mediators will meet with both parties individually to listen to the issues and concerns, and then move towards face to face mediation between the parties if they are happy to proceed. Mediation is an entirely voluntary process, and both parties opt in to the mediation process and may step out of that process if they wish.

What we mediate

The Student Resolution Service will mediate a wide range of cases that are causing conflict between students, although not all cases will be suitable for mediation. Examples of suitable cases might include:

  • Accommodation issues
  • Noise complaints
  • Access to resources
  • Inter-personal conflict
  • Research group conflict
  • Conflict within a university club or society

Accessing Mediation

Referrals to the Student Resolution Service will be accepted from anyone, including students, staff, and welfare contacts. If a referral is being made on behalf of a student we expect that consent has been given for this.

Students are welcome to come and have an initial conversation about any issues or concerns, and to ask questions about mediation and how it works. We can also offer advice on an anonymous basis.
