In this official guide to undergraduate study at Oxford we'll talk about ways to prepare. Whatever stage you're at, there are things you can do to get ready for studying at Oxford. Learning at University is about gaining knowledge and understanding, but it's also about having ideas and knowing how to share these. To prepare for this you need to be curious and develop your own thoughts about everything you discover. When you learn something new, question yourself about it and try describing your thoughts, either verbally or in writing. One of the best ways to develop your thinking is to explore your favourite subjects, beyond school work. It doesn't matter if your interests centre on a few topics, being able to think deeply is important and knowing a lot about a little, rather than a little about a lot, is just another way of learning. Online educational sites will help you stretch your thinking, but to get you started we've created our own resource hub. Organised by subject, this includes podcasts, magazines, videos and more. You can also check out Oxplore, our free digital platform, which draws on our academics research to tackle some of the big questions of our time. Spend time at local museums, libraries and events, if you can, or explore digital collections, like our Ashmolean adventure and virtual tour of our Museum of Natural History. Look out for events in your region run by Oxford for UK, our nationwide community programme, run by groups of Oxford colleges to support students, families and teachers. If you're thinking of applying next year, our UNIQ program for UK state students in year 12, or equivalent, offers free advice and often includes a residential in Oxford. Applications normally open in December. Target Oxbridge offers free mentoring to Black African and Caribbean students and students of mixed race with Black African and Caribbean Heritage in years 10 and 12. The programme aims to increase chances of studying here and includes residentials for year 12s. Finally, don't forget to sign up for our choosing Oxford newsletter, offering step-by-step support with your application. Explore our digital prospectus and undergraduate admissions website. Follow us on our social media channels. Come to an Open Day if you can. Some colleges offer subsidised travel and free accommodation. We hope to see you soon.
