50 words writing competition for 11-16 year olds

What does research mean to you?

Researchers at the Oxford University would like to know what you think of when you think about “research”. To find this out, we are running a writing competition for 11-16 year olds at schools in Oxfordshire on the subject “research”.

You can use any form of writing, but it must start “Research is …” and be no longer than 50 words.

Do you want to write a micro-story or mini-essay? Perhaps a poem or a news article? Maybe an advert or prose? Your writing can be narrative or descriptive; expository or persuasive – whatever you want.

A £50 voucher (Amazon, Blackwell’s or high street) will be awarded to the winning entry in each year group category:

  • Year 7
  • Year 8
  • Year 9
  • Year 10
  • Year 11

All entrants and their parents/guardians will be invited to the Grand Prize Giving Ceremony at Oxford University, where the winners will be announced.

The competition is open to everyone in Years 7 – 11 who attends a school in Oxfordshire.

If you have any questions about the competition, please see our Terms & Conditions page or email the researcher, [email protected].
