Dr Karin Hellner

Dr Karin Hellner is a well-respected and highly-accomplished consultant gynaecologist in London and Oxford who specialises in colposcopy, human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cytology alongside abnormal smear tests and dyskaryosis. She privately practises at 132 Harley Street and GenesisCare Oxford and her NHS base is Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Hellner obtained her medical degree from the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2003, undertaking specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at both the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany and Oxford.

With a dedicated focus on women's health, Dr Hellner spent four years as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School and its teaching hospital Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, USA. During this time, her research primarily centred on unravelling the molecular mechanisms underlying human papillomavirus (HPV) associated carcinogenesis and devising innovative drug discovery strategies for cervical cancer.

In 2011, Dr Hellner joined the University of Oxford as a clinical lecturer, later earning recognition as a senior fellow in Women's Health in 2017.

Driven by a clinical interest in HPV-associated cervical disease, Dr Hellner leads a cutting-edge research program called HPV Research — Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health. Her leadership extends to serving as the lead consultant for Oxford's renowned colposcopy service and spearheading multiple national and international clinical trials as Principal Investigator.

Beyond her academic and clinical pursuits, Dr Hellner plays an active role in professional organizations. She holds a distinguished position as a board member of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP), representing the South-East of England. Additionally, she is accredited by the BSCCP as a colposcopy trainer and holds an esteemed elected membership with the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI).

Dr Hellner also volunteers her expertise as an expert reviewer for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust Charity, demonstrating her commitment to advancing women's health and combating cervical cancer on multiple fronts.
